Jockey’s Heritage Suite
In a bid to preserve this priceless past, the Australian Turf Club partnered with Girvan Group, who had been the inspiration for the preservation, and sought to bring to life the existing features.
The challenge of this project was to reinstate the original jockeys’ change room mood from its present rundown state into something rich and atmospheric, celebrating its historical value and transforming it into the ideal function space on Race Day.
Construction revealed historical “gems” such as jockeys’ signatures and other graffiti that had been hidden over time. These were intentionally preserved and integrated into the fitout. Vinyl flooring was removed to reveal original timber floors with a variety of time-worn patinas, while the original cedar panels were re-purposed for wall, bar and partition cladding.
